[HEALTH] Marijuana – not for hell but for health

Unknown to many people, marijuana can be used to improve human health, except when its usage is abused, it remains a good herb. There is no hell condition if properly used. Other names for marijuana are cannabis and Indian hemp. The word hemp has become synonymous with danger just because most users engage in its negative applications. As a herbal therapy marijuana had been used for centuries, even in ancient times predating the Christian era. It had been used in ancient Egypt where the Ebers Papyrus had a reference to it as a curative therapy. The use of cannabis was also common in ancient China about 10,000 years ago. Herodotus, the ancient Greek historian referred to how the herb was in steam baths. In ancient India cannabis had its use in certain religions as well as in healing and relaxation. All these lend credence to the historical importance of marijuana. The harmful impacts of marijuana had always been scary, it includes insensitivity, error of judgment, harsh irrational behavior, strong tendency to criminality, insanity, and a host of abnormal and violent behaviors. For this reason several individuals and groups, religious bodies, even governments, put outright prohibition on the intake of marijuana to prevent being intoxicated after use. Certain churches even prescribe death and hell for marijuana smokers. It is a common observation that it is easy for people to commit all sort of crimes after smoking marijuana. But those concerned are using the herb wrongly. The flagrant abuses therefore are eclipsing the numerous health benefits. Any drug used beyond prescription could be harmful, this is the case with marijuana.
In spite of the misgivings of the Indian hemp, it is still very potent in curing diseases such as the following:
- Asthma
- Sickle cell
- Leukemia
- Depression
- Epilepsy
- Hepatitis
- Alcoholism
- Collagen-induced arthritis
- Parkinson’s disease
- Huntington’s disease
- Multiple sclerosis
- Mental disorder
- Glaucoma
Gradually the use of marijuana as a herbal therapy is gaining ground with individuals, groups, and governments. For example if used under very strict control, the U.S. government is permitting limited use for healing. Some state governments in the U.S A. are authorizing the use, though the Federal U.S. government is exercising the superior central power to regulate state applications. The essential point to note is that marijuana has come a long way in contributing to human health, the abuses notwithstanding. In the search for alternative medicine, all possibilities must be explored, even the widely accepted orthodox drugs have their negative side effects, with strict control, marijuana should be given the chance to continue its contribution to improving health of human beings.
