Towards the end of his life, Michael Winner seldom, if ever, welcomed any celebrities under the age of 60 to his palatial home in Holland Park, west London.
It has taken the irascible film director’s death to make the old place “happening” again. Mandrake hears that David Beckham and his wife, Victoria, have looked around it since it was put on the market, followed by Robbie Williams and his wife, Ayda.
There was an unconfirmed report over the weekend that Williams had bought the 46-room property for £17.5 million. “I am told that a deal has been done, but there’s a confidentiality clause so nobody can say who it is,” says my mole in the neighbourhood.
“I’d be surprised if Williams had bought it as it’s very open and right on the road so I wouldn’t have thought it would suit someone with quite so many fans. I believe that was why the Beckhams decided to go for another property instead.”
