Dong Hai, 46, was locked up in the five square metre stone jail after he began to show indications of mental health issues as an adolescent.
A man has been caged in a minor stone cell for 30 years by his own parents in the wake of showing indications of mental health issues as a young person.
Dong Hai, 46, was secured up the five square metre jail when his mother and father dreaded he may harm somebody.
Dong Watou and his wife Xiao Hong, from Longhai, southeast China's Fujian Province, constructed the stone safe house in their garden in 1983.
They caged their then-16-year-old offspring after he started to show side effects of mental health issues.
The couple took their offspring to various clinics in the region, however not a single person was equipped to offer assistance.
The family used all the reserve funds in a year and needed to suspend his medicine.
They then made what they say was the hardest choice in their existence, to secure Hai away their enclosure.
The folks, who are currently both nearing 70, are scaared of what will happen to Hai when they die.
