Liga - Spanish transfer news: Atletico 'agree deal for Cazorla'

A report in Spain claims that Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal for Arsenal playmaker Santi Cazorla.

Onda Cero Radio made the claims and said that Miguel Angel Gil, Atleti managing director, is in London to negotiate his transfer.
Diminutive former Villarreal and Malaga star Cazorla is thought to have struggled to settle in London and be keen on a move back to La Liga.
Onda Cero said that the arrival of friend and fellow Asturian David Villa at the Vicente Calderon has convinced him to move to the Spanish capital.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic wants to follow Carlo Ancelotti to Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain.
A report in AS today claims the Swede is upset the French outfit have signed Edinson Cavani for €64m for Napoli, given that the Uruguayan plays in the same position as Ibrahimovic.
It also maintains Ibra is eager to get his hands on a Champions League winners’ medal, a competition he has never won, and feels he has a better chance of doing that by linking up again with Ancelotti.
There had been speculation Zlatan was unhappy when the Italian left PSG, and the report maintains that Ancelotti has personally asked Real Madrid President Florentino Perez to bring Ibrahimovic in.
It is also understood the player is willing to take a pay cut on his €14m-a-year salary in order to secure a move to the Spanish capital.
PSG paid €21m for Ibrahimovich just 12 months ago, yet Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentis is recently alleged to have said he was led to believe Cavani and Ibrahimovic will not play together this coming season.
Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaifi has ruled out any move from the Ligue 1 club for Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
Speculation has continued that cash-rich PSG would make a bid for the Portuguese star this summer, despite Carlo Ancelotti leaving the club, but in an interview with RMC radio Al-Khelaifi appeared to put the matter to rest.
“If I wanted Cristiano Ronaldo I would call [Madrid President] Florentino Perez, but the player has two years left on his contract at Real Madrid. I wish him all the best,” he declared.
At the same time, Al-Khelaifi denied that defender Thiago Silva would be leaving PSG, following on from the player’s remarks this week that he would complete his contract at the Parc des Princes.
Thiago Silva will not be going to Barcelona. He has a four-year contract with us and will be playing in Bordeaux when we contest the Champions Trophy in August. He wants to play in that competition.
“In fact, it is us that are looking at some Barca players,” he conceded.
Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has not given up in his attempts to take Real Madrid defender Pepe to the Etihad Stadium.
The Chilean has been tracking the Portuguese international all summer and has asked City director of football Txiki Begiristain to make one last effort to snare his man.
However, reports that Napoli are on the verge of signing Raul Albiol from Madrid will make the move more difficult as new Los Blancos’ boss Carlo Ancelotti will be reluctant to leave himself short of cover in central defence.
When City’s interest in Pepe was first known, the Spanish giants made it clear he was not for sale, with President Florentino Perez even calling to reassure him he was still in the club’s plans.
Even so, reports in Spain suggest a tempting offer of around €20m from the Blues would be too good to turn down for a player aged 30, despite it reducing Real’s list of available centre-backs to Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane and Nacho.
In the meantime, Alvaro Negredo is expected to confirm his move from Sevilla to the Premier League outfit shortly, while City are also trying to finalise terms on a deal for Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic.
Valencia President Amadeo Salvo says the club have not received any offers for star strikerRoberto Soldado.
Furthermore, Salvo insisted that Los Che are not a selling club amid reported rumours that players such as Pablo Piatti, Adil Rami and Diego Alves could be sold to ease financial difficulties.
“Valencia will stand firm and we have not received any offers for Roberto Soldado,” declared Salvo at the presentation of new youth team Coach Nico Estevez.
“There will always be players who are linked with a possible exit and when Valencia, who own the players’ rights, decide they will leave then we will not be letting them go for nothing.”
At the same time, he revealed that there had also been no firm bids for Fernando Gago, who was last week the subject of an attempt to take him on loan by Boca Juniors.
“If the player is professional he will come back to Valencia shortly. We’ve had no offers from Argentina,” asserted Salvo, who also asked for the fans to be patient with regards new signings coming into the club.
“The fans are aware we won’t be playing in the Champions League next season and that we have an economic model to follow, so that conditions what we do, but we have to accept their will sometimes be criticism.”
Salvo also wished to make it clear that Valencia were never interested in signing Real Mallorca midfielder Giovani dos Santos, who eventually joined Villarreal, despite claims to the contrary.
“Valencia were not interested in Gio. Therefore, there never was an option for him to play here.”
He also commented on plans for the club’s New Mestalla stadium, which have been dogged by financial problems over the past few years.
“There are two or three companies that have started to contact us and asked us to provide them with proposals for a possible venture,” admitted Salvo.
Liverpool are set to battle Sevilla for the services of Paris Saint-Germain striker Kevin Gameiro.
El Desmarque reports that despite the French international having previously admitted his desire for a move to La Liga, Reds’ boss Brendan Rodgers will make a fresh push to take the player to Anfield following an unsuccessful attempt in January.
It is understood that the Andalusians have already agreed terms with the 26-year-old and director of football Monchi is in constant contact with the player.
Nonetheless, Los Nervionenses are taking nothing for granted and club President Jose Maria Del Nido, used to these type of situations in the past, is quoted as saying as recently as Monday that Sevilla has “six different options for the forward position”. While the player himself has suggested a transfer is imminent, new PSG boss Laurent Blanc has not ruled out the possibility of keeping the former Lorient and Strasbourg man at the Parc des Princes.
“There are contacts. We have spoken and Kevin has his own position, but he is the only real centre-forward we currently have in the squad.
“We’ll have to wait and see what the club decides,” said Blanc.
Enrique Cerezo has refused to be drawn on whether there will be more Atletico Madridsignings this summer.
The Atleti President, who was attending the traditional pre-season lunch with the Press before going on to greet the team and players at their training camp in Segovia, believes boss Diego Simeonealready has a great squad at his disposal.
“I think that little by little we’ve assembled a very good squad and if anything else comes up then we’ll see about it. If not we won’t.
“We’ve got a great team which is going to be very united and we’ll have a great season,” said Cerezo, who explained the delay in bringing in new players this summer.
“Cholo [Simeone] was very nervous but that was just his way of expressing himself. If you are on holiday then how are you going to work? Things have to be done properly, step by step.”
Cerezo also commented on new signing David Villa after the former Barcelona striker’s presentation to the fans and media this week in front of 20,000 supporters inside the Vicente Calderon, some of whom ran onto the pitch.
“The presentation was spectacular. He is a player with many qualities and one of them is that he attracts many people. I think the majority of Atleti fans feel very good about this signing.”
“It was not an invasion. Some young boys got onto the field to get their shirts signed and then, when the player was leaving, more people came on.”
He also looked forward to the upcoming Supercopa de Espana clashes with Barcelona.
“Preparation for these games starts now. We’ll go on tour and after that things will begin for good, commencing with the Supercopa against Barca.”
